Musselburgh All-Weather Protest

Thursday, 29th September 2005

Musselburgh (the premiere racing venue in south-east Scotland) "has found itself locked in conflict with a well-organised band of protesters to its ambitious £12 million (A$28.8m) project for a floodlit all-weather venue," reported racingpost.co.uk. The project is back in the hands of the local council's planning department "after original plans were withdrawn when East Lothian Council (which owns the course) requested more information regarding the environmental impact of a development that also includes new racecourse stables & staff accommodation". A residents group called Hands Off Our Links "has claimed a proposed 60 all-weather fixtures will bring irreversible damage to the area".
