Donna Blini Wins UK Gr1 Cheveley Park

Friday, 30th September 2005

Darley freshman sire & NZ's Rich Hill Stud shuttler Bertolini (Danzig-Aquilegia, by Alydar) continued his sensational 1st-crop season when juvenile daughter Donna Blini (Bertolini-Cal Norma's Lady, by Lyphard's Special) won a 3-way photo-finish to the prestigious £170,000 ($A408,000) Gr1 Cheveley Park Stakes (6 furlongs) for 2YO fillies at Newmarket in England overnight, reported racingpost.co.uk. Donna Blini (ridden by Mick Kinane for trainer Brian Meehan) defeated Wake Up Maggie (by Xaar) by a neck, with a further neck to fast-finishing favourite & multiple Gr2 winner Flashy Wings (by Zafonic). Donna Blini was sold for 20,000 guineas (A$52,000) at last year's Doncaster St Leger Yearling Sale; she now has 3 wins (also including a last start victory in the Gr2 Cherry Hinton Stakes on July 5) & a placing in 4 starts. Her exciting sire Bertolini is based at Darley's Overbury Stud in the Northern Hemisphere.
