Shadow Cast Heads To A.P.Indy

Friday, 30th September 2005

Meanwhile top US 4YO mare Shadow Cast (who won the Gr1 Personal Ensign Handicap at Saratoga on August 26) has been retired to stud "after tearing a tendon in her right front leg in a workout at Belmont Park," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Owner-breeder Bill Farish confirmed Shadow Cast (Smart Strike-Daily Special, by Dayjur) "would most likely be bred to A.P.Indy in 2006" & summed up: "It's a crushing blow, that's for sure. She worked great (in preparation for tomorrow's Gr1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont) & she just hurt herself pulling up. It's just too bad we won't get to see a couple more starts. She had her biggest races ahead of her." Overall Shadow Cast won 9 of 21 starts (6 stakes, also including the 2004 Gr2 Silverbulletday Stakes, plus this season's Gr2 Louisville Breeders' Cup Handicap & Gr3 Bayou Breeders' Cup Handicap) & earned US$923,751.
