Friday, 30th September 2005

Pensioned 27-year-old New York stallion Triocala (by Tri Jet) has been euthanased at Highcliff Farm "because of congestive heart failure," reported bloodhorse.com. Florida-bred Triocala recorded 14 wins (including 2YO victories in the 1980 Alsab Stakes & Morven Stakes, plus 3YO victories in the 1981 Count Fleet Stakes & Rockaway Stakes) & 5 placings in 63 starts & earned US$465,660. Retired after the 1983 season, he entered stud at Schoenborn Brothers Farm in New York state before moving to Highcliff after several seasons. As a stallion, Triocala "developed a reputation for siring hard-knocking runners able to withstand years of training: 8 of his 9 horses that won or placed in stakes started anywhere from 33 to 104 times". Triocala's son Tri For The Gold won 7 stakes (including the Gr3 Garden States Stakes); another stakes-winning son Judicious Account captured 15 races in a 2-year span; & stakes-placed son Triodet won 25 races. Triocala's progeny earnings are US$3.3 million.
