Westerner Sold To Coolmore

Thursday, 27th October 2005

In France, "arguably the top European stayer over the last 3 seasons" & multiple Gr1-winning 6YO Westerner (Danehill-Walensee, by Troy) "has been sold to Coolmore by owner-breeder Alec Wildenstein & will stand as a jump stallion next year," reported racingpost.co.uk. Westerner has 11 wins (from 1.5-2.5 miles, 9 at Group level including France's Gr1 Prix du Cadran & Gr1 Prix Royal-Oak, plus this year's English Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup at York) in 27 starts; most recently he finished 2nd in the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe & is currently scheduled to "make his final start for trainer Ellie Lelouche in the Gr1 Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin in December. Coolmore spokesman David Magnier commented: "We're delighted to have got Westerner. Both Danehill & Danehill Dancer have proven very successful when crossed with mares by Sadler's Wells & his sons, so we feel Westerner should appeal to many National Hunt breeders."
