De Beers Wins Gr1 Rosehill Guineas

Monday, 3rd April 2006

On the track, Woodlands Stud stallion & UK Gr1 Epsom Derby winner Quest For Fame (Rainbow Quest-Aryenne, by Green Dancer) added a Gr1 progeny triumph when regally-bred colt De Beers (Quest For Fame-Chimeara, by Danehill) prevailed in a thrilling 3-way photo-finish to the $500,000 Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) for 3YOs at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney. De Beers (ridden by Craig Williams for trainer David Hayes) won by a neck from fellow colt Oh Oklahoma (Singspiel-More Natural, by Naturalism) with a further head to another colt Primus (Flying Spur-Copa De Oro, by Hector Protector). De Beers (a NZ$750,000 yearling at the 2004 NZ Bloodstock Karaka Sale) now has 2 wins & 4 placings (including runner-up in the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes over 1400m on March 4) in 11 starts for $465,725 earnings. "De Beers is among 39 stakes-winners for Quest For Fame (25 of them bred in Australasia)", noted thoroughbredinternet.com. Meanwhile, De Beers is out of a full-sister to young sires Viking Ruler (1st yearlings this year), and Kempinsky, who made his stud debut last year.
