Fusaichi Pegasus Adds US Gr3

Monday, 3rd April 2006

Coolmore shuttler & US Gr1 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr Prospector-Angel Fever, by Danzig) added a US group success when Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith's Gr1-winning 4YO entire Bandini (Fusaichi Pegasus-Divine Dixie, by Dixieland Band) "displayed the domination that made him a leading 3YO Triple Crown contender last season" & "dictated the pace from the start" to score a 1.25-lengths victory in the US$100,000 Gr3 Skip Away Handicap (9 furlongs) at Gulfstream Park, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Bandini (ridden by John Velazquez for trainer Todd Pletcher) defeated Chilean-bred We Can Seek (Seeker's Reward-Weekend Leave, by Polish Navy) & Brazilian-bred O'Connell's (Jules-Cover Model, by Hang Ten). At his previous start on March 1, Bandini made a triumphant return after a 10-month lay-off to set a track record (1min 34.19sec) in blitzing his rivals by 3.75-lengths over 8 furlongs at Gulfstream Park. Kentucky-bred Bandini had won last year's Gr1 Blue Grass Stakes by 6-lengths at Keeneland Race Course in his final start before the 2005 Gr1 Kentucky Derby, where he finished 19th & immediately underwent ankle surgery to remove a bone chip. Overall Bandini now has 5 wins from 8 starts for US$646,380 earnings.
