UK Owner Warned-Off Over Bets

Monday, 3rd April 2006

Nottingham businessman David Wright was warned-off for 5 months by the UK Jockey Club "after twice laying a horse to lose on Betfair in which he had a half-share," reported racingpost.co.uk. Wright (who does not currently own any racehorses & did not attend the inquiry) "earlier admitted the offences, but claimed to have been unaware of the regulation (introduced in September 2003) that outlaws owners, trainers & stable staff laying their own horses on betting exchanges"; however this explanation "failed to wash with the disciplinary panel, which expressed scepticism that the rule had escaped his attention".
