Weekend Wins Highlight Waikato Yearlings
Meanwhile the impressive weekend wins by 4YO mare Tusker (Volksraad-Stella Artois, by Star Way), 4YO gelding Swick (O'Reilly-Crème Anglaise, by Crested Wave) & 3YO filly Crepe De Chine (Pins-Gio, by Centaine) were timely for Waikato Stud, which has close relations to each selling at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney (beginning April 18).
- Tusker (winner of the weight-for-age NZ Gr2 Awapuni Gold Cup over 2000m) is a half-sister to an O'Reilly colt from Stella Artois (herself a half-sister to Gr1 Melbourne Cup hero Brew, being from champion mare Horlicks); since the catalogue went to print Tusker has also been Gr1 placed in the Whakanui Stud International Stakes (2000m) at Te Rapa in February.
- Swick (who returned from a 28-week spell for a 1st win over 1200m at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney & at his previous start finished 3rd to Gr1 star Lotteria in the Gr2 Shannon Stakes in September) is a full brother to Burwood Road, dam of a colt by hot young sire Pins. This is Burwood Road's 3rd foal: her 1st is 3YO Pins filly Dower (a stakes-placed 2YO & runner-up in the NZ$500,000 NZ Bloodstock Classique); & her 2nd is a 2YO colt by Pins (sold to Graeme Rogerson for NZ$200,000 at last year's Karaka Sale).
- Crepe De Chine (who won over 1200m at Awapuni) is a half-sister to an O'Reilly filly from the mare Gio (also represented this season by O'Reilly gelding Arenti, winner of 6 of his 7 starts in Singapore, including last start in the Listed Three Rings Trophy at Kranji).
