44 Stakes-Winners To Flying Spur
Arrowfield Stud stallion Flying Spur (Danehill-Rolls, by Mr Prospector) recorded his 44th stakes-winner (& 8th this season) when juvenile gelding Mentality (Flying Spur-Synaesthesia, by Quiet American) took the weekend's Listed Baillieu Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm. Mentality (a $100,000 yearling at the 2005 Inglis Easter Sale) is the 1st Australian-bred foal of US mare Synaethesia (a half-sister to Gr1 winner Fara's Team, who in turn produced US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Concern). Synaesthesia has now produced 3 runners for 3 winners; she is currently in foal to World Champion Falbrav (Fairy King-Gift Of The Night, by Slewpy) & has a filly by Hussonet (Mr Prospector-Sacahuista, by Raja Baba) at foot. Synaesthesia (a US$77,000 purchase from the 2001 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale) was 1 of 3 mares purchased from that sale on behalf of Arrowfield by Byron Rogers, who noted: "We spent US$330,000 for 3 in-foal mares, foaled the mares down & sent the mares to Australia & put the foals through the November Sales where they bought US$300,000 in total; so the mares didn't owe an awful lot when they arrived at Arrrowfield." And Keeneland's Australasian representative Vin Cox added: "Given the saturation of Danzig blood in this part of the world, it makes sense for astute breeders to cast their eye further afield in search of quality mares to match with the many outstanding sire sons of Danehill now at stud in Australia."
