Texas 2YOs: US$270,000 Ide Filly

Thursday, 6th April 2006

In the sale ring, trainer Ralph Nicks (buying as agent for James Spence) paid top price of US$270,000 for a filly by Ide (named Tensas Yucatan) during the Fasig-Tipton Texas 2YOs-In-Training sale at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The filly (the 2nd foal from Arrowfield Stud shuttler Dehere's mare Xylophone) had been purchased for just US$14,500 in the name of Ideal Partners at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Texas August yearling sale. However she ran a furlong in 10sec flat (the fastest time) during the pre-sale breeze-up session & Nicks (paying a new record for a filly at this sale) commented: "She went a little higher than I thought, but I think she's special. It's a lot for a Louisiana-bred, but she's fast & she makes no mistakes." And consignor Eddie Milligan from Twin Oaks Training Center added: "I was surprised. I knew I had a lot of action & I knew she'd sell really well; but I really didn't have any idea how high." (It was the highest price at this sale since subsequent Gr2 winner Bwana Charlie sold for US$240,000 in 2003.)
