$1m+ For Mannington Filly Pre-Sale
The 1st "million-dollar-plus yearling has already been sold from the 2006 Inglis Easter Yearling Sales catalogue, even though the start of the sale is still 11 days away," reported The Sydney Morning Herald. The filly by Coolmore shuttler Fusaichi Pegasus "from the magnificently-bred mare Mannington has been sold privately to Paul Fleming, reputedly for more than $1.5 million". The filly had been nominated for January's Magic Millions Sale "but was withdrawn & is now an official scratching from the 3 days of the Inglis Sale" (commencing April 18). Fleming "was determined to get the filly & approached her vendor Bellerive Stud to buy her privately"; his "desire to buy into the Mannington family came to the fore last Easter when he went to $2 million for the mare at the Inglis Broodmare Sale, only to be beaten by Darley Australia, whose bid of $2.05 million won the day". (Mannington was in foal to Red Ransom at the time.) Mannington is by Danehill from Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay & was bred by Fleming's father Jim Fleming (former Sydney Turf Club chairman who "with sons Dean & Paul runs Tyreel Stud at Agnes Banks"). Mannington's 1st foal was last year's Gr1 Victoria Derby winner Benicio (due to begin his stud career at Vinery this season).
