Friday, 7th April 2006

Arrowfield Stud & Paul Makin's 5-time Gr1-winning 1st season sire Starcraft (2004 Australian Champion 3YO & 2005 World Champion Older Turf Miler) is off to a flying start at stud: standing his 1st season at Cheveley Park Stud in England, 28 of an initial 29 mares covered have been scanned & confirmed in-foal. Starcraft (Soviet Star-Flying Floozie, by Pompeii Court) has attracted an initial book of over 100 quality European mares for his 1st Northern Hemisphere breeding season; & of the 28 mares tested in foal, 7 are either stakes-performers or dams of stakes-performers, while a further 19 are out of stakes-winning mares or are full or half-relations to stakes-winners. Among these mares are: Belle et Deluree (dam of 3 stakes-winners including Gr2 Cherry Hinton winner Dazzle; Asbo (half-sister to both Gr1 July Cup winner Pastoral Pursuits & Gr1 William Hill Sprint Cup winner Goodricke); Alula (In The Wings half-sister to Group winner & successful sire Mind Games); War Shanty (half-sister to Gr1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Bold Eagle); Trois Graces (dam of stakes-winning colt Flat Spin); & stakes-winning fillies Kiss And Fly & Aldoka. Arrowfield managing director John Messara commented: "Starcraft's outstanding racecourse performances in both hemispheres made him the greatest Australasian traveller since the mighty gallopers Strawberry Road & Balmerino. We are tremendously pleased he has been so well received in Europe." Starcraft (whose Timeform rating of 128 equalled Strawberry Road & was the highest ever awarded to an Australasian-bred galloper) will stand his 1st Southern Hemisphere season at Arrowfield at $33,000.
