Mnemosyne Wins Gr1 Queen Of The Turf

Monday, 10th April 2006

Coolmore-based sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added another Gr1 success when Woodlands Stud-owned 3YO daughter Mnemosyne (Encosta de Lago-My Juliet, by Canny Lad) came from the tail of the field to overwhelm her older rivals in the straight & score a 0.75-lengths victory in the $400,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) for fillies & mares at Rosehill. Mnemosyne (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer John Hawkes) defeated last start Gr1-winning fellow 3YO filly Regal Cheer (Arena-Regal Chamber, by Archregent) & 4YO mare Shania Dane (Danehill-Subterfuge, by Machiavellian). Mnemosyne (a $400,000 yearling at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale) now has 6 wins (also including the Gr1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield in October, plus the Gr3 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m in August, as well as Gr2 Furious Stakes over 1400m & Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes over 1500m in September) & 6 placings (last start in the Gr1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m on March 25, plus the Gr2 Surround Stakes over 1400m on March 11 & Gr1 Flight Stakes over 1600m in October) for $1,325,975 earnings.
