Racing To Win Wins Gr1 Ryder Stakes

Monday, 10th April 2006

Coolmore stallion Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek by Star Way) recorded his 6th individual Gr1 winner when ultra-consistent 3YO gelded son Racing To Win (Encosta De Lago-Surrealist, by Kenny's Best Pal) got up in the last strides to snatch victory by a long-head over the older horses in the $400,000 weight-for-age Gr1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill. Racing To Win (ridden by Glen Boss for trainer John O'Shea) defeated fellow 3YO gelding Paratroopers (Commands-Crew, by Sanction) & Gr1-winning 6YO gelding Lad Of The Manor (Zabeel-Matrona, by Woodman). Racing To Win (a $40,000 yearling at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale) now has 5 wins (also including the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes over 1400m on March 4) & 3 runner-ups (including the Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes over 1500m last start on March 25 & Gr2 Royal Sovereign Stakes over 1200m on February 18) in 8 starts for $796,225 earnings. Winning dam Surrealist (also the dam of stakes-performer Distilled) is catalogued for the 1st session (June 13) of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale; she was served last spring by former outstanding sprinter Fastnet Rock. Encosta de Lago's other Gr1 winners (among 26 individual stakes-winners) are Lashed, Titanic Jack, Alinghi, Delago Brom & Mnemosyne.
