Kiwi Gee I Jane Targets Aust Gr1s

Tuesday, 11th April 2006

In New Zealand, this year's NZ Gr1 Telegraph Handicap winner Gee I Jane (Jahafil-Miss Distinction) is being aimed at 2 Gr1 races during the Brisbane winter carnival. Cambridge trainer Neville Couchman confirmed Gee I Jane will tackle the $300,000 weight-for-age Gr1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 13 & $1 million Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 10. Couchman told NZ Thoroughbred Marketing his 5YO mare Gee I Jane "has just returned to work & she's looking a million dollars & very perky. She may have a trial in NZ before she goes over to Brisbane. She is tentatively booked on a plane to Brisbane at the end of this month." Last year Gee I Jane campaigned in Adelaide & Melbourne (winning a 1200m race at Moonee Valley & finishing 3rd in the Gr3 Mackay Stakes at Morphettville plus 4th in the Gr1 Swettenham Stud Stakes at Morphettville). Back in NZ, she won the Gr1 Telegraph Handicap (1200m) at Trentham on January 21, following a runner-up in the Gr1 Railway Handicap (1200m) at Ellerslie on January 1; she subsequently also finished 3rd in the Gr1 Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m) at the end of February & was a last start runner-up in the weight-for-age Gr3 Darley Kings Plate (1200m) at Ellerslie on March 4.
