Doncaster Day-1: $234,000 Montjeu Colt
Former Hong Kong trainer Ivan Allan (now based in Singapore) out-bid Oliver St Lawrence (representing Saudi buyer Khalid Mishref) & paid top price of 90,000 guineas (A$234,000) for a Montjeu colt during the opening session at the 2-day Doncaster Bloodstock Breeze-Up Sale in the UK overnight. The colt (consigned by Malcolm Bastard & a half-brother to Little Good Bay) had been bought-back for just 25,000 guineas (A$65,000) when offered from breeder Lady Bamford's Daylesford Stud at the UK Tattersalls Sale 6 months ago. The colt will now head to Nick Littmoden's Newmarket yard & the trainer told racingpost.co.uk: "I'm not sure what Ivan's long-term plans are for the horse, but he'll come to us for the time being. He breezed particularly well for a Montjeu & is a backward horse who will be much better as a 3YO. He also vetted very well, which is important."
