Doncaster Day-2: $286,000 Invincible Spirit Colt
In the UK overnight, County Meath-based Irish trainer Ger Lyons out-bid agent Bobby O'Ryan & Tim Easterby to pay the Day-2 top price of 110,000 guineas (A$286,000) for a 1st-crop colt by Chatswood Stud shuttler Invincible Spirit "who ensured a bumper profit for his vendor, former jockey Roger Marley" during the final session at the 2-day Doncaster Bloodstock Breeze-Up Sale, noted racingpost.co.uk. The colt sold for just 19,000 guineas (A$49,000) at last year's St Leger Sale & "caught the eye of several good judges" during the pre-sale breeze-up session. Lyons commented: "He's been bought for some lads from Galway who told me to pick out the best horse in the sale. He really looked the part & breezed well, especially given that he was carrying Roger's 13 stone in the breeze-up. I've known Roger since we were both riding together, so I know he's come from a good home & I hope he might be a horse for the St Leger sales race."
