Joyful Winner Lands HK Gr1 Silver Jubilee

Tuesday, 18th April 2006

In Hong Kong, Emirates Park Stud stallion El Moxie (Conquistador Cielo-Raise The Standard, by Hoist The Flag) added a Gr1 quinella when Australian-bred gelding Joyful Winner (El Moxie-Northern Tycoon, by Last Tycoon) motored home from last to grab the lead in the final strides from champion 7YO gelded sprinter Silent Witness (El Moxie-Jade Tiara, by Bureaucracy) & score a half-length victory in the HK$4.5 million (A$750,000) Gr1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin. Joyful Winner (ridden by Christophe Soumillon for expatriate Australian trainer John Moore) led in an Australian-bred trifecta in this final leg of the 2006 HK Champion Sprint Series, with 5YO High Intelligent-Dance Up (Anabaa-Party Dancer, by Party Leader) finishing 3rd for former leading Sydney jockey Chris Munce & ex-Sydney trainer John Size. Joyful Winner (a $24,000 bargain at the 2002 Magic Millions Winter Yearling Sale) was originally sent to New Zealand (winning 2 of 8 starts) before transferring to HK in 2004; since then he has won 7 of 11 starts & HK$7.553 million (A$1.26m) prize-money. Trainer Moore (who has won 5 of this season's 7 domestic HK Gr1 races to date) commented: "The obvious race for him now is the Gr1 Champions Mile at Sha Tin on May 7. If he does well in that race, we might then consider the Gr1 Yasuda Kinen in Toyko in June." (When then unbeaten Silent Witness won this race last year, it marked his record 17th successive victory.)
