Racing To Win Takes Gr1 Doncaster Handicap

Tuesday, 18th April 2006

Coolmore stallion Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek by Star Way) added another Gr1 triumph yesterday when boom 3YO gelded son Racing To Win (Encosta De Lago-Surrealist, by Kenny's Best Pal) made it twin Gr1 victories in successive starts with a half-length win over his older rivals in the Easter Monday holiday weekend's feature $2 million Gr1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick in Sydney. Racing To Win (ridden by Glen Boss for trainer John O'Shea) defeated 4YO mare Johan's Toy (Johan Cruyff-Extra Bubbly, by Bellotto) & 4YO gelding Bentley Biscuit (Peintre Celebre-Tycoon Joy, by Last Tycoon). Racing To Win (a $40,000 yearling at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale) now has 6 wins (also including last start's Gr1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill on April 8, plus the Gr2 Hobartville Stakes over 1400m on March 4) & 3 runner-ups (including the Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes over 1500m on March 25 & Gr2 Royal Sovereign Stakes over 1200m on February 18) in 9 starts for $2,006,585 earnings. O'Shea indicated Racing To Win will now be aimed at Australia's premier weight-for-age race, the Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley in Melbourne in October.
