Red Oog Wins Gr1 T.J.Smith Stakes

Tuesday, 18th April 2006

Independent Stallions Victoria sire Brief Truce (Irish River-Falafel, by Northern Dancer) added a Gr1 triumph when 6YO gelding Red Oog (Brief Truce-Mary Julia, by Zoffany) caused a boil-over by snatching a shock half-head victory in the $600,000 weight-for-age Gr1 T.J.Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick. Red Oog (ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer Joseph Pride) defeated 5YO mare Glamour Puss (Tale Of The Cat-Centenaire, by Centaine) & Gr1-winning 3YO colt Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets). Red Oog ("conceived when Brief Truce was at Woodlands Stud in 1998," noted racenet.com.au) now has 10 wins (also including last year's Gr1 Doomben 10,000 in Brisbane, plus both the Gr3 Concorde Stakes & Gr3 Star Kingdom Stakes at Rosehill) & 6 placings (including the 2005 Gr1 Galaxy at Randwick) in 28 starts for $1,168,510 earnings.
