Top Kiwi 2YO Heads To Sydney

Tuesday, 18th April 2006

Meanwhile recent NZ Gr1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes runner-up The One (O'Reilly-The Grin, by Grosvenor) "is almost certain to travel across to Sydney to contest the $475,000 Gr1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 22," reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. Co-trainer Paul Moroney said lightly-raced colt The One has "come through his Awapuni race very well & provided he continues to work well, the Sydney trip will go ahead". The One stormed home late in the Gr1 Manawatu Sires to beat all but stable-mate colt Jokers Wild (Black Minnaloushe-Miss Rory, by Rory's Jester) who is now in the spelling paddock. Moroney added: "Our long-range goal with Jokers Wild is the Gr1 Victoria Derby in Melbourne in the spring & he will do his 3YO preparation from Mike's (brother Mike Moroney) stable at Flemington."
