Classy Women Euthanased Aged 18
US 18-year-old graded stakes-winner & stakes-producer Classy Women (dam of Irish champion Ad Valorem) was euthanased at Calumet Farm in Kentucky, reported bloodhorse.com. Classy Women (Relaunch-Aironlass, by Proud Clarion) produced a Forestry colt in February (& has an unnamed Stravinsky yearling filly), but "suffered from chronic lameness". Calumet bought Classy Women (in foal to Dayjur) at the 1993 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. She produced 10 named foals (all consecutively & 6 are winners); among them, Ad Valorem (by Danzig) was Ireland's champion 2YO male of 2004 & an English Gr1 winner that year, while 3 others were stakes-placed (with Designer & Petite Princess group-placed in Europe). On the track, Classy Women "set a world-record mark on grass of 1min 1sec for 5.5 furlongs at Hollywood Park"; overall she notched 4 wins from 10 starts (including victories in the Gr3 Hillsborough Handicap & Sandy Blue Stakes on grass in California, plus placed in the Gr1 Test Stakes at Saratoga).
