Inglis Easter Day-1: $550,000 Giant's Causeway Colt
South African trainer Charles Laird paid $550,000 for a Giant's Causeway colt (the 9th foal from Clever Trick mare Wily Trick) consigned by Murrurundi-based Emirates Park Stud. Wily Trick is a half-sister to Height Of Fashion (dam of Nayef, Nashwan, Unfuwain, Alwasmi, Sarayir & Mukddaam). From Wily Trick's 9 foals, 6 have raced (4 winners) including 8-time winner (from 1200-2040m) & $6,449,088 earner Elegant Fashion, whose victories include the Gr1 Hong Kong Derby, Gr2 HK Chairman's trophy, Gr2 Kewney Stakes, Gr2 Angus Armanasco Stakes, Gr2 Moonee Valley Oaks & Gr3 HK International Cup Trial (plus runner-up in the Gr1 AJC Oaks, HK Gr1 QEII Cup twice, HK Gr1 Champions & Chater Cup, HK Gr1 Gold Cup & HK Gr3 Sha Tin Trophy, & 3rd in the HK Gr1 Sha Tin Cup, HK Gr1 Gold Cup twice, HK Gr1 Champions & Chater Cup & HK Gr2 International Mile Trial). Laird commented: "I think the reason I got him a bit cheaper (than his earlier purchase of a Giant's Causeway-Wild Berries colt for $1 million) was that he's not going to be a 2YO. I can just take him home to South Africa & throw him out in the paddock for a year, then see how he goes."
