Inglis Easter Day-2: $3m Redoute's Choice Colt
South African trainer Charles Laird paid a new Australian record $3 million for a colt by boom Arrowfield Stud stallion Redoute's Choice (bettering the previous $2.5 million Australian record set at this sale last year for the Redoute's Choice half-brother to Makybe Diva purchased by Woodlands Stud) during last night's 2nd session of the 3-day Inglis Easter Yearling Sale at Newmarket in Sydney. The colt (the 8th living foal from Slew O' Gold mare Deja Slew) was consigned by Scone-based Yarraman Park Stud as agent. Laird commented: "We have the best colt at the sales. He's like an attractive woman on the street you know, he talks to you. He's really really special; we would have bought him whatever I think." Laird added he didn't have a budget for the horse, but confirmed: "We really wanted this one: we knew this was the one." The colt heads straight to South Africa (after the obligatory quarantine period) for Laird's big owner Marcus Jooste. Yarraman Park's Arthur Mitchell (who today consigns one of the sale's talking horses, Alinghi's sister) declared: "I had no idea it would make that much! This just might be the best 24-hours of my life." The colt's dam Deja Slew (placed at her only start in the US) has had 5 foals race to date (all winners) including 6-time victor Top Slice, 5-time victor Teheran (racing in Hong Kong as Super Century), dual victor (& Listed-placed) Bull Market & 3-time victor Real Slew.
