Kentucky 2YOs: US$725,000 Five Star Day Colt
Also among the top prices in Kentucky (noted in yesterday's coverage of the early action at Keeneland) Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Darley Stable paid US$725,000 for the Five Star Day colt that worked the fastest quarter-mile in 20.6sec during the under-tack show. The colt is out of stakes-winning Relaunch mare Authorized Staff (a sister to Bill Back, dam of Gr1 winner House Party). Murray Smith "originally bought the colt at the 2005 Ocala Breeders' Sales' Co winter mixed sale for just US$50,000 & later sold him privately for US$130,000 after he failed to meet his reserve at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July sale of selected yearlings," noted thoroughbredtimes.com.
