NZ Trainer Jones Plans 4-Horse Qld Raid

Thursday, 20th April 2006

Kiwi trainer Alan Jones "will make his annual excursion to Queensland for the winter racing carnival with a 4-horse team," reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. Jones (raiding the Brisbane carnival since 1970) "nowadays has his own 50-acre property at Caloundra (on the Queensland Sunshine Coast) from which to prepare his horses". Last year the Jones stable won 10 races at the Brisbane carnival & this year he "intends to take his 4 horses over to Brisbane in May & remain until September". The team will be spear-headed by 5YO mare Fluffy Duck (Tale Of The Cat-Quack) who won the JRA Trophy (1200m at Ellerslie in Auckland last Saturday) & now boasts 6 wins from 16 starts. The other raiders are Zara (Zabeel-Centra), Almanac (Almutawakel-Classy Liz) & Analign (Align-Cupid's Dart).
