Thursday, 20th April 2006

On the track yesterday, Coolmore's NZ Cambridge Stud shuttler Stravinsky (Nureyev-Fire The Groom, by Blushing Groom) added another Gr1 triumph when his daughter Serenade Rose (Stravinsky-Rose Of Tralee, by Sadler's Wells) notched her 2nd Gr1 victory this month (& 3rd overall) with a 1.75-lengths win in the $700,000 Gr1 AJC Oaks (2400m) for 3YO fillies at Royal Randwick in Sydney. Hot favourite Serenade Rose (ridden by Glen Boss for trainer Lee Freedman) defeated Flora Danica (Danehill-Peruzzi, by Zabeel) & Beauty Watch (Belong To Me-Rush For Gold, by Quack) in a race record 2min 28.8 sec. Serenade Rose (a $400,000 yearling at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale) now has 8 wins (also including last start's Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill on April 8 & last month's Gr2 Angus Armanasco Stakes over 1600m at Caulfield, plus the Gr1 Victoria Oaks over 2500m at Flemington in November, as well as the Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes & Gr2 Wakeful Stakes during October) & 4 placings (including the Gr2 Kewney Stakes over 1600m at Flemington in March & 2005 Gr1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield) in 14 starts for $1,729,885 earnings. Serenade Rose is the 1st filly since Grand Archway in 1998-99 to complete the prestigious VRC Oaks-AJC Oaks double.
