UK Tatts Day-1: $1.04m Rock Of Gibraltar Colt
Meanwhile in the UK early this morning (Australian time), Irish agent Peter Doyle (acting for Dermot O'Rourke, new owner of Newmarket's historic Plantation Stud) out-bid Northern Farm's Shunsuke Yoshida & paid top price (& 2nd highst ever price at a European breeze-up) of 400,000 guineas (A$1.04m) for a colt from the 1st cop of Coolmore stallion Rock Of Gibraltar (out of Caerleon mare Sabreon) during the opening session at the 2-day Tattersalls Breeze-Up Sale. The colt (consigned from Willie Browne's Mocklershill Stables) will join Henry Cecil at his Warren Place stables in Newmarket & represented a major pin-hooking result for Browne, who purchased him for 165,000 guineas (A$429,000) at Part I of the 2005 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. His dam Sabreon is a half-sister to multiple Gr1 winner Landseer.
