UK Tatts Day-1: $520,000 Danehill Dancer Colt
London-based Jamie McCalmont out-bid Irish trainer Ger Lyons & paid 200,000 guineas (A$520,000) for a colt by Coolmore's Danehill Dancer (from Mr Prospector mare Statistic) consigned by Mark Dwyer's Oaks Farm Stables. Danehill Dancer has had a huge week on the track in England, "providing the winners of both Classic trials run so far at the Rowley Mile, with a 1-2 in the European Free Handicap courtesy of Misu Bond & Jeremy, plus 1st & 3rd in the Nell Gwyn Stakes with Speciosa & Salut d'Amour," noted thoroughbredinternet.com. This colt previously made just €40,000 (A$64,000) at the Goffs Million Sale; he is a great grandson of Nureyev's mother (& Sadler's Wells's granddam) Special & his dam Statistic is a half-sister to Jade Robbery, Chequer & Numerous. McCalmont told racingpost.co.uk: "He has been bought to go to Jeremy Noseda, but I can't say a lot more than that. Danehill Dancer could be the new Danehill & his record is only going to improve as the products of the better mares he has had come through. With his family, this colt will be worth an awful lot if he wins a Gr1."
