US Gr1 Star Nothing To Lose Joins Newlands
One of the world's most explosive Gr1-winning turf gallopers of recent years, US 2004 Gr1 Shadwell Mile (8 furlongs on turf at Keeneland) winner Nothing To Lose (Sky Classic-Cherlindrea, by Clever Trick) will stand in Australia this breeding season at Walter Alteri's Newlands Thoroughbreds in Victoria alongside Kempinsky (Danehill-Tristalove, by Sir Tristram). Bloodhorse.com noted Nothing To Lose "recorded one of the year's fastest Beyer Speed Figures (111) in winning the 2004 Gr1 Shadwell Mile" (the 2nd most prestigious turf mile in US racing) by 4-lengths from a field including 4 other Gr1 winners. Nothing To Lose (a 6YO home-bred raced by Kentucky's high-profile Ken & Sarah Ramsey) has been purchased outright by Newlands; he had been retired by the Ramseys in December boasting 6 wins from 15 starts, also including the the 2004 Gr2 Fourstardave Handicap (8.5 furlongs on turf) at Saratoga in 1min 39.5sec (just 0.6sec outside the course record), as well as both the 2003 Gr3 Tropical Park Derby & Gr3 Palm Beach Stakes (plus 4 stakes-placings, including the Gr1 Monmouth United Nations Stakes) for US$809,210 earnings. Alteri noted: "With the ridiculous prices being paid of late for stallion prospects that haven't won at Gr1 level, I think we have done very well to obtain a horse of this calibre. Race track performance has & will always be the greatest asset a stallion prospect has & this horse was a supreme star at the highest order." His sire Sky Classic (a Canadian track Champion) has produced 45 stakes-winners.
