In Iowa, Gr1 winner & veteran sire Acaroid (Big Spruce-Arachne, by Intentionally) "died of a heart attack at Timber Creek Farm aged 28," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Florida-bred Acariod won 10 of 27 starts (including the 1983 Gr1 United Nations Handicap, 1983 Gr2 Manhattan Handicap & 1981 Gr2 Lexington Handicap, plus runner-up in the 1982 Gr1 United Nations Handicap) & earned US$452,907. At stud Acaroid sired 136 winners from 207 starters in 20 crops of racing age; his 7 stakes-winners winners include 1992 Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes victor & US$386,693-earner Captive Miss.
