Inglis Easter Day-3: $2.2m Secret Savings Filly

Friday, 21st April 2006

Leading Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse paid $2.2 million for a daughter of Secret Savings (the 6th foal from Don't Say Halo mare Lifetime Story) consigned by Murrurundi-based Emirates Park Stud. The filly is a full sister to former Waterhouse-trained triple Gr1-winner Shamekha & Waterhouse (who also trained the filly's sire Secret Savings) declared: "I thought this was the filly of the sales. She's outstanding: so fluid like her sister, a glorious thing." Waterhouse added the filly was already syndicated for overseas owners & she was expecting to pay about this sum. (The previous record stood at $1.5 million, set in 2002 when Coolmore's Demi O'Byrne bought a Danehill filly out of Assert mare Sommes Sound.) Lifetime Story (a winner over 1300m & half-sister to 8-time winner Brave Warrior) has had 3 foals race (all winners) including 8-time victor (from 1000-1500m) & $1,914,240-earner Shamekha, whose successes include the Gr1 All-Aged Stakes, Gr1 T.J.Smith Stakes, Gr1 Coolmore Classic, Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes, Gr2 Magic Night Stakes, Gr3 Furious Stakes & Gr3 Champagne Classic (plus runner-up in the Gr1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes, Listed Keith Mackay Stakes & Listed Newcastle Cameron Handicap, as well as 3rd in the Gr1 George Main Stakes, Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap & Gr2 Surround Stakes).
