Inglis Easter Day-3: $400,000 Fusaichi Pegasus Filly
Japanese owner-breeder Katsumi Yoshida paid $400,000 for a Fusaichi Pegasus filly (the 7th living foal from Sadler's Wells mare Kirov Premiere) consigned by Arrowfield Stud. Kirov Premiere won 5 races in the US & UK (from 9-12.5 furlongs) including the Gr3 Meadowlands Breeders' Cup Handicap & runner-up in the Gr3 Belmont Athenia Handicap. She is a 3/4 sister to 4-time Japanese winner Mother Mary & half-sister to both 11-time winner Quintillion & 5-time French winner Be Discreet (dam of 1997 German high-weight & 7-time winner Gothenberg, as well as 9-time winner Omaha City). From Kirov Premiere's 6 foals to race, 3 are winners including Japan's 2005 champion 3YO filly & 5-time winner Cesario (whose victories from 1600-2400m include the Gr1 American Oaks, Gr1 Japanese Oaks & Gr3 Japanese Flower Cup, plus runner-up in Japan's Gr1 Hanshin Oka Sho). Yoshida bred the yearling (who will head into training in Japan) in partnership with consignor Arrowfield Stud, but explained he was determined to win her in the ring, as she is the only filly other than Cesario which Kirov Premiere has produced in her stud career so far: "I wanted her, but obviously it did depend on price. I think she's a very good broodmare prospect."
