UK Tatts Day-2: $1.014m Galileo Colt
Irish trainer Ger Lyons (buying "on behalf of a Galway-based owner who is building up Glenview House Stud") out-bid Irish agent Peter Doyle & paid 390,000 guineas (A$1.014m) for a Galileo colt (out of Royal Academy mare Sometime, a daughter of the great mare Alidiva, dam of Gr1 winners Taipan, Ali-Royal & Speepytime) also consigned by Willie Browne's Mocklershill Stables, reported racingpost.co.uk. This colt (a half-brother to Listed winner Manyana) "had been unsold for US$130,000 at Keeneland in September & sprinted away from a stable-mate in Tuesday's breeze-up". Lyons commented: "That was our limit: everything has to have a value & we wouldn't have gone any higher. He was our pick of the sale, but I told my man that I didn't think we'd get him. He has a serious pedigree & had quality written all over him. He probably wouldn't be seen out until a back-end maiden this year & might not even run before he is a 3YO. He is a long-term prospect. I hope he is lucky for Glenview House Stud, who have supported me so well."
