Monday, 24th April 2006

On the track, the Sydney Easter Carnival concluded with Emirates Park stallion Danewin (Danehill-Cotehele House, by My Swanee) adding a Gr1 staying triumph when 7YO gelding County Tyrone (Danewin-Nice Choice, by Touching Wood) finished strongly from the tail of the field to score a 2.5-lengths win in the $800,000 Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick. County Tyrone (ridden by Jim Cassidy for trainer Kris Lees) defeated 6YO gelding Zabeat (Rhythm-Zabest, by Zabeel) & 5YO gelding Three Chimneys (Generous-Star On Ice, by Half Iced). County Tyrone (a $70,000 yearling at the 2000 Inglis Classic Sale) now has 9 wins (also including the 2002 Gr1 Queensland Derby & 2004 Gr1 Metropolitan over 2400m, plus last month's Listed Sky High Stakes over 1900m) & 15 placings (including twice previously in this same race in 2003 & 2005, as well as 4th in 2004) in 66 starts for $2,111,070 earnings.
