Shablec Wins McKay Stakes

Monday, 24th April 2006

Kambula Stud stallion Blevic (Scenic-Blooms, by Biscay) added a group success when top-weighted 5YO gelding Shablec (Blevic-Shabet, by Amen Brother) scored a 0.75-lengths victory in the $100,000 Gr3 McKay Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville in Adelaide. Shablec (ridden by Paul Gatt for trainer Richard Jolly) defeated 6YO mares Leone Chiara (Lion Hunter-Chiara, by Last Tycoon) & Social Glow (Aghaadir-Socially, by Gloaming Kaoru). Shablec (a $47,500 yearling at the 2002 Magic Millions Adelaide Sale) spent 8 months away from the track with injury last year; he subsequently notched 2 successive runner-ups in his return races in February & early March (in the Gr3 Irwin Stakes over 1100m) before winning the Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m) last start on March 13; overall he now boasts 6 wins & 5 placings in 18 starts for $334,390 prize-money.
