Success Express 3YO Wins 7-Straight In Singapore
In Singapore, Vinery Stud stallion Success Express (Hold Your Peace-Au Printemps, by Dancing Champ) added a Gr3 success when star 3YO gelding Why Be (Success Express-Charybdis, by Royal Academy) again defeated his older rivals & notched his 7th successive victory with an all-the-way win in the S$200,000 (A$160,000) weight-for-age Gr3 Fischer Stakes (1200m) at Kranji. The race was the 2nd leg of the 2006 Singapore Sprint Series & Why Be had already won the 1st leg Gr3 Kranji Sprint (1200m) by 4.25-lengths on April 2; after that victory the official Singapore Turf Club report declared Why Be had "confirmed his rating as potentially one of the best sprinters Singapore has ever seen". (The 3rd leg of the Series is the Gr1 Lion City Cup over 1200m on May 13.) In his latest triumph, Why Be (who won last season's Gr3 Singapore Juvenile Championship over 1200m, following a stunning 10.5-lengths romp on debut) was ridden by Sam Subian for expatriate NZ trainer Laurie Laxon & recorded a 1.5-lengths victory over Connery (Al Akbar-Truly Lucky) & Tom Higgs (Al Akbar-Moon Voy). Why By (originally an A$20,000 weanling at the 2003 Inglis Select Sale in Sydney & then resold as a NZ$26,000 yearling at the 2004 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale) now has 9 wins (also including the MRA Cup on March 12) & 2 runner-ups from 11 starts for over S$1.3 million (A$1.04m) earnings.
