Dolphin Jo Wins VRC St Leger

Wednesday, 26th April 2006

On the track during yesterday's Anzac Day holiday race meetings, Independent Stallions Victoria sire Dolphin Street (Bluebird-Or Vision, by Irish River) added a black-type success when gelded son Dolphin Jo (Dolphin Street-High Rent, by Belligerent) recovered from interference rounding the turn to power home & grab victory by a long-head in the $200,000 Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) for 3YOs at Flemington in Melbourne. Dolphin Jo (ridden by Nash Rawiller for trainer Terry O'Sullivan) defeated fellow geldings Mr Bigalow (Personal Escort-Whispering Arch, by Bio) & favoured Prince Dande Lion (Generous-Egoli Lass, by Kaapstad). Dolphin Jo now has 3 successive wins (following victories at Ballarat over 2200m on April 6 & Caulfield over 2400m on April 15) & 3 runner-ups from 11 starts for $199,100 prize-money. O'Sullivan indicated the lightly-race 3YO will now be spelled before returning for a campaign aimed at the Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) in November.
