Sir Slick Wins NZ Anzac Handicap

Wednesday, 26th April 2006

In New Zealand yesterday, Windsor Park Stud's champion sire of the last 4 seasons Volksraad (Green Desert-Celtic Assembly, by Secretariat) added another black-type success when 4YO gelding Sir Slick (Volksraad-Miss Opera, by Paris Opera) blitzed his rivals by 5.25-lengths in the NZ$40,000 Listed Postponed Anzac Handicap (1600m) at Awapuni. Sir Slick (ridden by Bruce Herd for trainer Graeme Nicholson) defeated 4YO entire Mikki Street (Cape Cross-Opera Pearl, by Crested Wave) & top-weighted evergreen 8YO gelding Irish Rover (Kenfair-Sterling Lea, by One Pound Sterling). Sir Slick (a NZ$48,000 yearling at the 2003 NZ Bloodstock Select Colts Sale) now has 7 career wins (also including last month's Gr2 NZ-Japan International Trophy over 1600m at Tauranga).
