Van Clief Leaving NTRA & Breeders Cup
High-profile US administrator D.G. Van Clief junior, a "central figure in the operation of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (currently commissioner & chief executive) & Breeders' Cup Ltd (currently president) since the inception of both organisations, plans to retire from all of his positions with both groups by the end of the year," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Van Clief confirmed: "In the last 2 years we have positioned the NTRA & Breeders' Cup for success. We have overhauled the Breeders' Cup's governance structure & elected capable, energetic board chairmen in Bill Farish at Breeders' Cup Ltd & Craig Fravel at NTRA. We have built consensus around key strategic priorities & positioned the Breeders' Cup World Championships for future growth. When I assumed management responsibilities for the joint operation in 2004, it was with the understanding that I would do it for 2 years. Now is the right time to proceed with a management transition."
