Curtain Falls On Bazelle's Racing Career
Dual Group 1 winner Bazelle (NZ) (Zabeel x Show Games by Showdown) has been retired to stud. According to NZ Thoroughbred Marketing, her Melbourne owner-breeder Lorna Moore made the decision last week to bring down the final curtain on the top-class mare's racing career following a Brisbane winter campaign. Bazelle's 2 Gr1 triumphs were both scored at Ellerslie. The first of these came in the 2005 Auckland Cup (3200m) and the other in the 2005 Zabeel Classic (2000m). Bazelle won 7 races and was placed on a further 2 occasions during her 36 start career which earned her connections over NZ$460,000. She was trained throughout her career by Paul Jenkins at Matamata. While a decision is yet to be made on which stallion she will visit in her debut season, "a front-runner is Cambridge Stud stallion Stravinsky who sired the NZ$2.2 million top-priced lot at the 2006 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sales at Karaka this year and is currently the leading sire of 2YOs in New Zealand in 2005-06."
