Dylan Thomas Wins Gr1 Irish Derby

Monday, 3rd July 2006

In Ireland overnight, Coolmore Stud's deceased shuttle stallion and multiple champion Australian sire Danehill earned yet another Gr1 victory when his 3YO colt Dylan Thomas (Danehill-Lagrion, by Dieses) made a one-act affair of the €1.5 million ($2.6 million) Gr1 Irish Derby (12 furlongs) at The Curragh. Ridden by Kieren Fallon for trainer Aidan O'Brien, Dylan Thomas defeated fellow sophomore colts Gentlewave (Monsun-Saumereine, by Saumerez) & Best Alibi (King's Best-Chauncy Lane, by Sadler's Wells). The same team also combined on the day to win the Gr2 Railway Stakes (6 furlongs) with 2YO Danehill colt Holy Roman Emperor.
