Inglis June Thoroughbreds: Gross Up 26.5%

Monday, 3rd July 2006

Following its successful 2 weanling sessions, last Friday was the last of the 3 days of the thoroughbred section at the 5-day Inglis June Weanling & Thoroughbred Sale at Oaklands in Melbourne. All-up, a total of 491 lots were sold for $7,107,150, up 26.5% on last year's corresponding sale, for an average of $14,474.85. The clearance rate was a high 88%. In particular demand was stock from the Lloyd Williams Unreserved Reduction Sale. Illustration, a bay gelding by Zabeel was purchased by Eric Donald from Victoria for $200,000 representing the top lot for the lucrative Williams Racing draft. The stakes winning mare Pretty Penny by Encosta De Lago fell to the bid of Glentreedowns for $265,000 claiming the position as second highest priced lot in the sale. Director Peter Heagney was thrilled with the results, commenting: "It was fantastic to see such a strong competing crowd at this sale. The competition for race fillies was as strong as I have ever seen and naturally it was pleasing to achieve such a good result for the Lloyd Williams Racing team."
