David Hayes Training NZ Stayer Viz Vitae

Tuesday, 4th July 2006

With a possible target of the Gr1 AJC Metropolitan Stakes (2400m) in mind, Ashwell Farm principal Ray Knight has sent his exciting stayer Viz Vitae (Shinko King-Mi Tristena by Sir Tristram) to Australia to be prepared by David Hayes. While in New Zealand, Murray Baker prepared Viz Vitae for 9 wins with the best coming in the Listed Marton Cup at Awapuni last January, after which the horse landed his most valuable placing: runner-up behind Envoy in the Gr1 Wellington Cup (3200m) at Trentham. Part-owner Knight said it was at Baker's suggestion that the gelding be sent to Australia to join the Hayes' stable: "The reality was that he is at the top of the handicap here and there are more opportunities over in Australia for him. Also, he's a top of the ground horse so he will get conditions to suit over there." Knight stands Viz Vitae's sire Shinko King alongside promising young stallions D'Cash and Handsome Ransom at Ashwell Farm.
