Makybe Diva Inducted Into Hall Of Fame
Champion racemare Makybe Diva (Desert King-Tugela, by Riverman) was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall Of Fame last night at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne. One of 9 inductees at the 6th Hall Of Fame ceremony to be held, Makybe Diva was one of 3 racehorses to get the nod, the others being Shannon and Amounis. According to The Daily Telegraph, Makybe Diva's owner Tony Santic declared: "What a mighty mare. This is a tremendous honour in its own right." Among living inductees last night were Ron Quinton, and Dr Percy Sykes. Also honoured were the racing administration Cox family, Frank Bullock, and "NSW 19th century trainers Tom Payten and John Tait." Makybe Diva's sire Desert King (Danehill-Sabaah, by Nureyev), whose daughter Chelsea Rose finished 2nd last weekend in the Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh, stands at Lynden Park Stud in Victoria for $13,200.
