Shades Of Out Of Africa

Friday, 7th July 2006

Friday-Odd-Spot 1: For fans of Karen Blixen's Out Of Africa, whose opening sentence is: "I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills," an upcoming yearling sale in Kenya might well strike a romantic chord. Attempting to establish an export market for their small thoroughbred breeding industry, Kenyan breeders wish to promote their sale to as wide an international audience as possible. Part 1 of the Kenya Yearling Sale was held on July 1 at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi where 17 yearlings were offered. Part 2, on Saturday July 15, will be held in Kenya's Great Rift Valley and will feature 42 lots, to be followed on Sunday July 16 with a race meeting at Ngong Racecourse where 3 Cups races highlight the program.
