Japan Yearlings: $2.4m Pivotal Colt
Tokyo bloodstock agent Nobutaka Tada "set a record for a Japanese yearling sold at public auction" when he paid ¥205 million (A$2.4m) for a colt by Cheveley Park Stud sire Pivotal "from the family of 2005 Japanese Horse-Of-The-Year Deep Impact" during yesterday's opening session (165 yearlings) of the 3-day Japan Racing Horse Association's annual July Select Sale (days 2-3 will offer 316 foals) at Northern Horse Park on Hokkaido, reported bloodhorse.com. Tada (who declined to reveal the colt's new owner, but confirmed it is a client of trainer Kazuo Fujisawa) said the colt brought the price he expected & summed up: "He's from a good family. He's a good athlete & he has a beautiful face. He's a smooth, fluid mover." The colt (consigned by Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm) is out of 9YO Thunder Gulch mare Veil Of Avalon (a Gr3 winner on grass & half-sister to both Deep Impact & Japanese Gr2 winner Black Tide).
