Glamour Puss Retired Before UK Gr1 July Cup

Wednesday, 12th July 2006

Meanwhile dual Gr1-winning NZ-owned & Australian-trained 5YO sprinting mare Glamour Puss (Tale Of The Cat-Centenaire, by Centaine) "has been retired to stud & will not start in the UK Gr1 Darley July Cup (6 furlongs) at Newmarket in England on Friday," reported thoroughbrednews.co.nz. Mark Chittick (part-owner of Waikato Stud which races & bred Glamour Puss) confirmed trainer Danny O'Brien "was not 100% happy with the way she looked after she trained at the weekend. Danny said she felt a bit flat & he recommended she be retired, which we agreed to. She is too valuable to take any risks with. She will now go into quarantine & head back to Australia, where she will be mated with Redoute's Choice at Arrowfield Stud & will then come over to Waikato Stud." Glamour Puss retires with 9 wins & 8 placings from 26 starts for NZ$1.4 million earnings; her highlights include 2005 victories in the Gr1 Goodwood Handicap (1200m) in Adelaide, Gr1 Salinger Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne, Gr2 Linlithgow Stakes in Melbourne & Gr3 Sapphire Stakes in Sydney.
