Japan Duo Set For Melb Cup

Japanese stayers Pop Rock & Delta Blues "will target this year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup" (3200m at Flemington on November 7) reported thoroughbredinternet.com.

  • The 5YO entire Pop Rock (Helissio-Pops, by Sunday Silence) is a last start winner of the Japan's Gr2 Meguro Kinen (2500m) at Tokyo on May 28. Pop Rock "is from the immediate family of the North American stakes-winning stayer Cocoa Latte, as well as stakes-placed Osumi Best".
  • Fellow 5YO entire Delta Blues (Dance In The Dark-Dixie Splash, by Dixieland Band) won Japan's Gr2 Sports Nippon Sho Stayers Stakes at Nakayama last December & finished 3rd behind superstar stayer Deep Impact in the Gr2 Hanshin Diashoten (3000m) on March 19. He also finished 3rd behind Zenno Rob Roy in last year's Gr1 Japan Cup & won Japan's 2004 Gr1 St Leger.
